Delivering Community-Based Solutions for Gig Harbor

I want to leave the world a better place than I found it and that’s why I’m a lifelong volunteer. It’s why I joined the Gig Harbor Parks Commission in 2020, City Council in 2022 and was chosen unanimously by my Council colleagues when I stepped up to be mayor in late 2024.

Today, I also serve on the boards of the Chamber of Commerce and the South Sound Housing Affordability Partners as well as on the leadership team for the Pierce County Unified Regional Approach to Homelessness. I’m a neighborhood coordinator for the Gig Harbor Food Project and volunteer when I can with the Waterfront Alliance, among others. It’s why I’ve been a volunteer since high school. I’ve served on the boards of the Alaska Botanical Garden, United Way of Anchorage, and the Imaginarium Science Discovery Center and Whitman College alumni board.

Professionally, I spent more than 40 years as a strategic communications and public relations professional. Most recently I retired as president of my agency, The Barber Group. I also served in various national leadership capacities with the Public Relations Society of America including on the Board of Directors, in the College of Fellows and on the PRSA Foundation. In 2019, I was awarded the Patrick Jackson Award for Distinguished Service. I am accredited in public relations and was inducted into the esteemed College of Fellows in 2003.
